Sixt targets cargo transportation

MUMBAI: Sona Mobility Services, master franchisee for Germanys Sixt car rental company, for India, is looking to derive growth from the entire mobility space and not just the car rental and lease space segments it currently operates in.

The Rs-30-crore company also expects monthly breakeven by March 2008.

Alok Dutta, the newly appointed chief executive of the company said, The mobility space, which includes cargo transportation, is quite large and I dont see a reason why we shouldnt be in that space. Sixt in Germany has a successful cargo transportation division, which we could bring here. Looking at the way retail business is developing in India, it is possibility that we undertake the entire mobility requirement of a retail chain end-to-end.

Launched in January 2006, Sixt India has expanded slower than it had earlier planned.

SIDEBAR: The GameSpot News Blog

In August, Sony added a playable demo for its shadowy action adventure Folklore to the PlayStation Network. It may come as some surprise, then, that a new demo for the game has been added to the PSN this week as part of Sony's recurring Thursday update. This time out, gamers can take a tour of the Fairy Realm as the game's primary protagonists, Ellen or Keats. Developed by Game Republic, Folklore was released earlier this month exclusively for the PlayStation 3.

Also appearing this week on the PSN is a free trial of Juiced 2: Hot Import Nights. Juiced Games' street racer features a mix of both racing and drifting gameplay. The game also plays heavily to its tuner roots, with an emphasis on car customizations and modifications. Juiced 2 is slated to arrive on the PS3 on October 22.

Parts of Argentina have prairie flavour

Corinne Thomson can turn a morning ride astride a polo pony or a pre-dinner glass of local wine into a near-perfect vacation escape.

Of course, these could be just a warm-up to a host of other adventures -- tango lessons, anyone? -- on the tours she operates to Argentina.

Thomson runs Voyages Millefleurs, a small company specializing in European and South American vacation quests, and counts many Saskatchewan residents on her client list.

CES: Samsung, Panasonic, Sharp and Philips to bow new Blu-ray players

PlayStation 3 offers similar connectivity for gaming downloads and is expected to soon be updated to a BD Live player.

Lionsgate’s War, which streeted Jan. 1, was the industry’s debut BD Live title. By the end of December, no Blu-ray players were BD Live-certified to playback War’s Web-enabled feature, an online fighting game.

Blu-ray picture-in-picture software also first started launching in 2008, including 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment’s Sunshine and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment’s Resident Evil: Extinction.

In May, Samsung will bow a value-priced, second-generation dual-format player for $599. The BD-UP5500 is similarly ‘Profile 1.1 Ready’ and compliant with rival HD DVD format's interactivity requirements.

Obama: Beware 'Reverse Bradley'

Obama's finest speeches do not excite. They do not inform. They don't even really inspire. They elevate. They enmesh you in a grander moment, as if history has stopped flowing passively by, and, just for an instant, contracted around you, made you aware of its presence, and your role in it. He is not the Word made flesh, but the triumph of word over flesh, over color, over despair. The other great leaders I've heard guide us towards a better politics, but Obama is, at his best, able to call us back to our highest selves, to the place where America exists as a glittering ideal, and where we, its honored inhabitants, seem capable of achieving it, and thus of sharing in its meaning and transcendence

Actually, pompous isnt really the word for this passage. There's a sort of hectoring naivete, as if Klein's too inexperienced to know that "call us back to our highest selves" is a drained cliche.

What gives? New series 'Oprah's Big Give'

The new ABC reality series doesn't just push emotional buttons, it pummels them and doesn't let up for one second of the hour. Attaching Oprah's name, the most revered brand in TV, and having her make cameo appearances in addition to the push she'll give it on her daytime program, is overkill.

Think Extreme Makeover: Home Edition with a dash of The Apprentice. Ten people, broken into two-person teams in the pilot, scatter about the country helping worthy people in dire need. Every one of the hearts-and-flowers sagas is designed to bring tears to your eyes. This show could sell more tissues than flu season.

Traveling Workers Told to Trim Expenses

Faced with a weakening economy, more companies are targeting travel and entertainment expenses.

"Everyone's starting to think about what's going to happen if there's an economic downturn," says Adam Weissenberg, who heads Deloitte's travel industry consulting division.

Fields of Dreams – A Quick Guide to Spring Training, Part 2: Arizona

The players are in camp, arms have been warmed up, and the bats are starting to pop. Games are just starting to begin, but there is still plenty of time to pack up the family and watch your favorite teams get ready for the season. Last time I ran down the Grapefruit League so here's your guide to the Cactus League in Arizona.

And, as always, check with the teams or stadiums first before booking any travel arrangements.

Arizona Diamondbacks - Tucson, Ari.

The D-backs share their southern Arizona home with the ChiSox, but are much closer to their regular season home. A young team that surprised many last year, the D-backs are built to be good for some time. Being native to Arizona, though, they know more than just baseball - the cheapest seats at their games are $5 on the lawn, but covered mezzanine is $16.
