In the first flush of her California victory, it seemed Clinton had a clear path to the nomination. But the picture looks different on closer examination a day later.

While she was winning the dwellings of America's elite, Obama was sweeping everyplace else - Utah, Idaho, Minnesota, Illinois, North Dakota, Kansas and Colorado, many of them states with virtually no black population. And his success in Missouri, Alabama and Georgia show that he continues to dominate Southern states with their large minority populations.

Why is Clinton doing so poorly in the heartland? There, away from the liberal media and establishment bias and from the coastal immigrant and Latino concentrations, she seems at a loss. Aside from her core white-women constituency, these voters are really supporting the memory of Bill's presidency more than the prospect of a Hillary administration.

Ikon scores A+ after helping Labor win

FEDERAL Labor's media agency of choice, Ikon Communications, has emerged at the top of a confidential list ranking media buying companies for its ability to win new business.

The company, 90 per cent of which was bought by STW for an estimated $25 million in 2006, scored an A+ on the annual ranking, compiled by Paris-based research firm RECMA.

While Ikon - which was ranked a B+ last year - beat five rivals for the top spot during 2007, OMD was ranked the top agency during the past four years.

Last year Ikon won the $27million buying account for Coca-Cola and Sony BMG's $16million media business, as well as accounts for Thrifty rental cars, SunRice, McGuigan Wines and Sportscraft. The agency lost the Bulleit and Avon accounts, representing about $10million.

Striking Writers Show Support For Tentative Deal

About 3,500 writers packed the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles to hear from union leaders about the proposed deal that was finalized just hours before meetings were held on both coasts by the Writers Guild of America.

A person familiar with the guild's plan, who requested anonymity because of a media blackout, said the WGA board would meet Sunday and decide on whether to authorize a quick, two-day vote of its members to determine if a strike order should be lifted.

Giving writers a 48-hour window to vote on lifting the strike order would help alleviate concerns that the agreement was being pushed too rapidly by the guild's board.

If guild members support lifting the strike order, they could return to work as early as Wednesday.

"The feeling in the room was really positive," said screenwriter Mike Galvin, adding that no one at the Los Angeles gathering said the deal "was crummy."

Compensation for projects delivered via digital media was the central issue in the 3-month-old walkout, which idled thousands of workers, disrupted the TV season and moviemaking and took the shine off Hollywood's awards season.

SportsBiz: After a long slump, bowling is back

At the Denny's World Championship in Indianapolis last weekend, a sold-out crowd chanted “Duuuuuuke" as Norm Duke's bowling ball rolled toward the pins. Wearing a shirt emblazoned with advertisements from sponsors such as Motel 6, Duke fought off Ryan Shafer to capture the title and boost his career earnings to $2.5 million. ESPN cameras, poised behind the pins and elsewhere, broadcast the scene to more than 1 million U.S. households.

After a spell in the sports wilderness, bowling is surging again. For the first time since 1999, network television will air a championship event, when CBS covers Bowling's Clash of Champions in May. Sports celebrities are embracing the game. According to the Spring 2008 issue of US Bowler, Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James — who has lanes at his house — received an honorable mention in the inaugural Celebrity Bowling rankings (former baseball pitcher John Burkett, thanks to his slew of 300 games, earned the top spot).

Death in the Sinai

In another incident, an Egyptian police officer fired on Israeli tourists in Ras Barakeh on the Red Sea coast near the Egyptian-Israeli border, killing four women, two children and one man. Authorities on both sides agreed it was an individual act carried out by a mentally disturbed man. In 1990, nine Israelis were killed and 19 injured in an attack on a bus on the road between Cairo and Ismailia.

Israeli tourists also survived a number of attacks plotted by Egypt's two major Islamist militant organizations. In 1986, Egyptian authorities thwarted an Egyptian Islamic Jihad-sponsored attack on Israeli tourists in Old Cairo's Khan El-Khalili market. A similar plot by Al-Gama'a Al-Islamiyya killed 18 Greek tourists at a Cairo hotel who were mistaken for Israelis.

While the nature of the Taba bombing clear to most, some Egyptian analysts turned to conspiracy theories to explain the attacks, saying the bombings bore the fingerprints of Israel's intelligence agency in a plot designed to detract international attention from a bloody IDF incursion into the Gaza Strip underway at the time.

Nearby businesses wondered about 'spa' clients

Business owners near a north Chandler spa police say was a front for prostitution had no solid evidence but a few clues something unusual may have been going on inside. "I suspected something might be going on," said Kurt Carmichael, owner of rental business Karaoke Sing-A-Long, next door to Blue Sky Spa. Both operate in a strip mall on the northwest corner of Dobson and Elliot roads. "The thing I noticed is that a lot of guys would go in and out of there," Carmichael said. "I never saw a woman." .

Selling sex to study

What we can definitely say is that as long as student debt increases so will the numbers of students entering the industry. Since the introduction of tuition fee’s in 1998 there has been an increase in students undertaking this kind of work."

It’s a situation which is becoming reality for some of the poorest students. Last month France’s education minister promised to increase financial support after the diary of a first-year student and a book of interviews with undergrads detailed their personal experiences of prostitution.

Dr Roberts said the French government is taking a much more proactive step towards tackling the problem compared with the British NUS: "Improving financial support [is] obviously a better way as it recognises it’s something to do with students having no money.

Local Gas Station Charging Over $4 Per Gallon Near OIA

ORLANDO, Fla. -- There was a break for the holidays, but gas prices are ready to rise again. One local gas station, though, is already charging customers much more than others.

RAW INTERVIEW: Manager Defends $4.49 Per Gallon

Customers at the independent gas station near the Orlando International Airport are paying $4.49 a gallon. Some of the customers don't know the price they're paying until it's too late.

There are no large signs showing the prices at the station. Most customers are tourists returning rental cars before catching flights at Orlando International Airport. Not all believe it's an honorable way to conduct business.

"It's not fair. It's definitely price gouging during the holiday season," said tourist Les Lazarus.

Even at $4.49 a gallon for regular, most of the pumps were busy at Suncoast Energys on Friday morning.
