Car Rental Costs Going Up March 1st
Mobile's latest annexation means car rental rates will go up starting March 1st. Last month, the City Council voted unanimously to annex all of the Mobile Regional Airport's land, extending the city limits west to Snow Road. The higher city sales tax takes effect March 1. The sales tax rate for businesses on airport property will increase from 7.5 percent to 9 percent, while the sales tax rate for businesses in the newest portions of the police jurisdiction -- which stretches three miles beyond the airport -- will rise from 5.5 percent to 7.5 percent. City officials estimate the city will receive an extra $1 million a year from the sales tax bump at the airport. If businesses have any questions, please contact the City of Mobile at 251.208.7462. .

It's because they're heterosexual. "Heterosexuals Attracted to Members of the Opposite Sex"--for those cultural critics wondering what a commerical disappointment for this much-heralded movie will Tell Us About America Today, there's your headline. ... P.P.S.: Universal love story or epater les bourgeois? You make the call! If you want to be convinced that Brokeback Mountain is a gay movie, read David Leavitt's annoying article arguing that it's not a gay movie. Especially this sentence: His Ennis Del Mar is as monolithic as the mountainscape in which—with the same swiftness, brutality, and precision that he exhibits in shooting an elk—he fucks Jack Twist for the first time. You wouldn't write that last bit in a classy publication like Slate if it were Jane Twist! Leavitt is taking both sexual pleasure from his sentence and pleasure in shocking his readers.
6 dead in shooting rampage at Kirkwood City Council
In a brief news conference this morning, Deputy Mayor Tim Griffin said the city is in mourning. "We want to thank the officers who bravely and heroically came to the rescue of those of us in the council chambers," said Griffin. "The business of the city will continue and we will recover, but we will never be the same," he added. "The healing process starts now." According to a sequence of events offered by police, Thornton parked on the street between City Hall and the Kirkwood Police Department. He crossed the street and walked up to Biggs, who had just come out of the police station on his way to grab a pizza at Imo's. "He approached Biggs and we don't know what happened between them, but then he shot Biggs," said County Police Officer Tracy Panus.

But her tribe Zhan Hu wasn't strong enough and they tended to lose despite her efforts. She chose not to play mind games, and her A-type personality clashed with some other tribe members, especially Dave Cruser. So when rival tribe Fei Long kidnapped her two episodes ago, she became vulnerable. ("I got screwed in the switch," she said.) What's worse: Frosti, another kidnapped Zhan Hu member, accidentally spied the immunity Idol this past Thursday, protecting his survival for now. Lloyd could have survived if Zhan Hu had thrown the immunity challenge a second time this past Thursday, but they weren't sure if she was trustworthy once the two tribes merged. She hurt herself when she chose not to talk to Zhan Hu member Peih-Gee Law during the reward challenge. But overall, Lloyd told Buzz she had a good time despite the lack of food and sleep.
