| Mideast peace talks will resume says Rice
I spoke today again with Secretary of State Rice and she will send an envoy, David Welch, to Cairo where intense efforts are being deployed with a view to reaching a truce," said Abbas, who lost control of Gaza in June after Hamas fighters routed his forces. But Israel gave no indication it intended to stop its military strikes aimed at halting near daily rocket attacks on it by militants from Gaza, a tiny, isolated enclave that is home to 1.5 million largely impoverished Palestinians. "The Israeli army operations against the Gaza Strip will continue as long as the rocket fire continues," a senior official quoted Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert as saying. Hamas has rejected Abbas's appeals for a ceasefire, saying the blame lay with Israel. "We are in a state of self-defence.
Crossville Aero wants to renew interest in local aviation
It has been over three months since the partnership of Mark Burris and Chris Bennett became the temporary Fixed Base Operator for Crossville Memorial Airport under the name of Crossville Aero. With plans for expanding an already broadened array of services, increasing aviation education opportunities and bringing a new concept to the Upper Cumberlands, the two local businessmen are confidant they are on track to land a permanent contract to run the daily operation of the airport from the city. In the process, they hope to build aviation interest locally while helping the city improve education and relations between the facility and industry and the airport."There is a misconception that you have to be wealthy to learn how to fly," said Burris. "For the price that some people pay for a four-wheeler, a person can take lessons and learn to fly."The two Crossville natives and their business took over operation of the airport after city commission members decided to do away with the long-standing airport committee and manager form of business.
No murder charge for Michaela Clerc
Prosecutors believe Michael Sisk and Candace Clark are directly responsible for the death of Tammie Garlin, and Judge Alan White ruled Monday that there is enough evidence to put them on trial for first-degree homicide charges. If convicted of killing Garlin, who was 36 years old at the time of her death, Sisk and Clark would receive a mandatory life in prison sentence. Michaela Clerc had been charged with the same 11 counts as Sisk and Clark. However, charges of first-degree homicide and hiding a corpse were dismissed as part of an agreement to waive her right to a preliminary hearing Monday. Clerc, 21, no longer faces the potential for a life in prison sentence, but still has numerous felony charges against her that will continue toward trial. If convicted of all the remaining allegations against her, she could be sentenced to serve more than 125 years in prison. The three also face charges of severely abusing Garlin's son, then 11, at the 304 W.
Developer says protesters are all jealous
A DEVELOPER who specialises in buying properties and building additional homes on the existing land is causing upset in a Trowbridge neighbourhood. Kathy Miller, a former Bowyer's factory worker, is a private property developer who owns a number of houses and flats in Trowbridge and the surrounding towns. She currently lives with her partner and daughter in Crawley Crescent, Trowbridge, and operates under the business name KCM Development Ltd, which was at the centre of a row over a proposed development of car-free flats at 42 and 44 Station Road, Westbury. Ms Miller operates within West Wiltshire District Council's planning rules and regulations but has attracted criticism from neighbours because of her methods. One of her most recent projects, in Bridge Avenue, Trowbridge, has upset neighbours, but she attributes the criticism to jealousy.

Screw caps call for some arm twisting
Any recipient suspecting you to be a cheapskate could always Google the bottle and get set straight pretty quickly. I'm glad everyone was happy in the end. But remember: All wine closures have their advantages and their faults, screw caps included. The big worry there is something called "reduction." An airtight seal can give wines a sulphury, barnyard smell. Screw caps remain a controversial choice for reds designed for long cellaring. So don't hold on to those bottles for too long. ----------- Do you have a wine or spirit question for Bill Daley? Write to him at the Chicago Tribune, 435 N. Replica guns seized from collector
I don't understand... Is possession of the replicas actually illegal, or did the police just decide it's not a good idea and take this mans property? There was no discussion of charging him, so I guessing it's the latter. How does anyone tolerate this? .
